Vuelvo donde nunca estuve
A documentary that follows Fernanda Olivares, a Selk’nam descendant, on her first trip to Tierra del Fuego, her people’s ancestral territory. In 1895, 165 Selk’nam people were captured, put on display and auctioned off in Punta Arenas; among them was Fernanda’s grandfather, whose story remained silenced for decades. Combining historical records and everyday scenes, the film challenges the narrative of Selk’nam extinction by showing a living people, recognized by the Chilean State in 2023. It opened in theaters on October 8, 2026. Merced handled the editing, VFX and sound design.
Selected for the Chile Showcase at Cannes Docs (Marché du Film) and the Lab Documenta Sur 2022. Distributed in theaters by Red de Salas de Cine Chile.
